This report provides a regional interpretation and data base for the Palaeozoic of the northern Middle East focusing in particular on the Western Desert of Iraq. The primary data source for the report is new analysis of well and outcrop samples from Iraq, Syria and Jordan, supplemented by well logs and other published data from Turkey, Syria, Iraq, Iran, Jordan, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait.
The study is based on new petrographic descriptions and covers the entire Palaeozoic succession. New geochemical analyses has been undertaken on potential source horizons to assess variations in source potential and maturity. New dating has been undertaken to improve and constrain correlations.
The results of these new analyses have been incorporated with other available published and proprietary data into a regional synthesis of the Palaeozoic sedimentary geology of the northern Middle East with special emphasis on the exploration potential of the Western Desert of Iraq.
The report covers lithofacies types and distribution, reservoir potential, source rock development distribution and maturity, reservoir quality, sealing potential, regional tectonic history and structure, and exploration implications. The relationships between the different systems of stratigraphic nomenclature employed throughout the study area are explained within the context of the regional geological evolution.

Composite logs are provided for wells: Jordanian wells Wadi Sirhan-3 and Risha-3 plus Syrian wells Tanf-1 and Swab-1. Other published data from wells and outcrops in Turkey, Syria, Iran, Jordan and Saudi Arabia are also included.
Potential source rock intervals have been identified and analysed from the Silurian, Carboniferous and Permian in order to establish source rock richness, likely products and maturity.
The report is presented as five PDF report volumes plus twenty-five PDF enclosures. Volume 1 presents our interpretations, stratigraphy, facies models, exploration plays and regional overview, illustrated with depositional models, facies maps, play summaries and photomicrographs. Volumes 2-5 present detailed interpretations of the new analyses for the well and outcrop sections. The enclosures include petrographic logs, composite logs and correlation cross sections. Well log traces and other selected data are also provided in LAS and Excel spreadsheet digital format.
